Where have I been and what have I been doing???

I've been thinking about the fact that I've not posted to this blog for a long time. In fact it's been a couple of months (even longer since I submitted a proper field recording). Despite this fact, it's been a great pleasure to note that the blog still receives a reasonable number of visitors each month, indicating that there are people out there who are interested in field recording. It has also meant that I have been introduced to a number of people who write blogs that either cover field recording also, or related subjects. For this I'm pretty grateful too.

I wish to avoid sounding as if I am making excuses for failing to provide my visitors with regular 'audibles', but perhaps I can clarify what has been going on over the last few months. Primarily, I have to confess that my main failure is in having 'fallen out of the habit' of chucking my old camera box of recording gear into my back when going out. So much so that the thought had ceased to even cross my mind. Conversely there have at least been occasions recently where I've wished that I'd brought my gear with me to a particular place.

Another hiccup resulted from the loss of my microphone windshields. This was a bummer - the knowledge that even if I took the mics out with me I might be limited by environmental factors started to put me off even bothering. The shields themselves came with the mics (which had been shipped from the States), and I couldn’t for the life of me find replacements for in the UK on the web. Luckily, not too long ago I popped into a shop on Fore St in Exeter that sells foam for a variety of purposes and managed for find some foam of a similar density that I could probably shape into something that would make for decent replacements… something I’ve not done yet…

In addition to all of this, as alluded to in my last couple of posts, I’ve been getting into circuit-bending and noise. Consequently I’ve found it a bit tricky to find the time for everything that I may decide on a whim to get into… learning to play Go… reading a new book (before finishing the last!)… Facebook…

So it’s all very well explaining my lack of activity, but in doing so I hope that I’ll have drawn an imaginary line under my period of laziness/lack of focus, and that I will enter a new and more productive phase for both this blog and being organised in general.

It’s probably worth mentioning my other blog: Two Ears – Lots of Noise. It transpires that the number of posts there dwarf that on here… and I’m considering either transferring some of the subject matters across to this blog, or posting the same entry on both blogs (providing I feel they would be of interest to the people who come here). If anyone has any thoughts on this, please feel welcome to say hello and let me know. This would be greatly appreciated.

All I think that is left to say is a thank you to all of those people who visit, and please feel free to comment with feedback and suggestions. I look forward to providing you with more listening material!
